Jaipur Zoo is one of India’s most popular zoological parks, located in the Ram Niwas Gardens of Jaipur, around 6 kilometres from Jaipur Junction Railway Station. The Central Zoo Authority and the Government of Rajasthan have conservation breeding projects for the ghariyal, cheetal, and crocodile, and the zoo is a part of them. One of the most popular activities in Jaipur is a visit to the Zoo.

The Jaipur Zoo is one of India’s oldest zoos. It was founded in 1877 and is located near the Albert Hall Museum and Jaipur’s Ram Nivas Garden. A total of 550 animals and birds representing more than 50 different species can be found here. The 35-acre Jaipur Zoo is located in the city of Jaipur. This zoo is divided into two sections: one is dedicated to mammals, while the other is dedicated to birds and reptiles.

The Jaipur Zoo is in the process of being relocated to the Nahargarh Biological Park. In comparison to the area of the Jaipur zoological park, the Nahargarh zoological park covers 720 hectares (5.23 hectare). A museum depicting Rajasthan wildlife is also located on the zoo grounds. In 1999, the famed Ghariyal breeding facility was established within the zoological park.

  • The zoo, which is next to the Albert Hall Museum, was founded in 1877. The zoo is separated into two sections, one for animals and the other for birds and reptiles. There are around 70 different animal, bird, and reptile species to see. Lions, leopards, tigers, white tigers, and panthers are among the animals housed in the animal department. Hyenas, alligators, tortoises, jackals, foxes, bears, and a variety of deer can also be seen. The zoo is also home to a variety of colourful birds, including geese, ducks, babble lorry, white peacock, pheasant, swans, storks, parrots, love birds, and countless more feathered creatures.
  • The crocodile breeding farm in Jaipur Zoo, India’s fourth largest breeding farm, was founded in 1999. Inside the zoo, a museum showcasing Rajasthan’s wildlife has been built. The zoo’s supplementary attractions include a greenhouse, an aviary, a herbarium, and a sports area.
  • The Jaipur Zoo, as its name suggests, is located in Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan, and it spans 35 acres. The zoological park is home to Rajasthan’s most diverse fauna and is the state’s largest zoo as well as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries. The zoological garden is also home to the country’s fourth largest gharial (an endangered kind of crocodile) breeding farm.
  • The goal of the zoological park was to preserve and protect the fauna, which included animals, birds, and reptiles. The zoological garden is separated into two sections, one for mammals and the other for reptiles and birds, based on the animal families that live there.
  • The Jaipur Zoological Garden authority, which was established under the Wild Life Protection Act, is dedicated to wildlife conservation initiatives, including crocodile, cheetal, and gharial breeding operations. Gharial breeding is now the only continuous breeding effort.
  • The Jaipur Zoo is the ideal site for a weekend getaway vacation with family and friends, as it is home to a variety of natural creatures, birds, and aquatic animals. The zoo, which opened in 1877 and is located near the Albert Hall Museum, houses a unique collection of more than 50 types of animals and birds from all over the world.
  • In addition, the Zoo is home to a museum. The Rajasthan Wildlife Museum displays the state’s wildlife’s past and present. The zoo now houses as many bird species as it does animals, and it has also been designated as a bird park since 2018.
  • As a result, the zoo has been separated into two sections: one for animals and another for birds and reptiles. A diverse culture of Black Buck, Baboon, Hyena, Black Bear, and Himalayan Bear, as well as birds such as White Ibis, Teeter, Peacock, Parrot, Crane, Vulture, Cockatoo, and Painted Stock, are among the important species in the Zoo.

In addition, the zoo is now a part of the Central Zoo Authority’s conservation breeding programme. The initiative aims to save endangered animal species such as the Gharial, Crocodile, and Cheetal, and the inbreeding programme has been progressively assisting in their preservation.

The government has decided to construct aviaries here as of 2018. The Rajasthan State Government manages the zoological garden.

The zoological garden is one of the most popular destinations for school day picnics, where students may learn while still having fun. The garden is especially popular with research students who are interested in botanical or zoological studies because they can observe animal behaviour or conduct plant-based research here.

History of Jaipur Zoo

Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh established the Jaipur zoological park in 1868 as an extension of the Ram Niwas Garden. The zoological garden has always been a big attraction with the kids.

In 1877, the Zoological Garden was opened to the public. It is one of India’s oldest zoos, with a total cost of roughly 4 lakhs to build.
